Rituals are not only common among religious people. You can have rituals in your daily life which do not relate to God. A daily routine can be a ritual, such as a common dinner time for the whole family.
Swami Ji writes in his blog about rituals in and out of religions, when they make sense and enrich life and when they are just a waste of material or even food.
For every ritual to make sense, you need to be there with the heart. You need to give love to this action that you are doing - it becomes a ritual, it becomes meditation!
