It is a problem that religion tells in scriptures and culture shows practically that girls should be treated differently than boys. Girls are not as wanted as boys, you get congratulations when you gave birth to a boy while you get looks and words of pity when it is a girl.
Religious scriptures are the main culprits of the creation of superstition.
In Hinduism there is a word ‘Kanya Dan’, the donation of a girl from father to husband. Like a thing that can be passed on. In a wedding this ‘Kanya Dan’ is however the most important part of the marriage ceremony - and this is how religion degrades women.
Hindu scriptures say that a woman always needs protection. First by her father and her brothers, then by her husband and finally by her son. This makes women weaker and worth less - injustice of religion!
