New Year Celebration at the Ashram in India - 1 Jan 09

Pooja

Yesterday at 12 o’clock we welcomed the New Year outside. There was lots of fireworks and for me it was very cold so that I went inside the house again a bit earlier than the others. It was a nice start of the New Year. The first day of the year is also Mady’s birthday and she celebrated it together with the Ashram by sponsoring food not only for the children but for 200 people. Purnendu told on phone that it was a wonderful celebration. For welcoming the New Year the Ashram made a fire ceremony and thus asked for god’s blessing for the coming time. People see God in the nature and thus fire is considered as the presence of God. With everything that you start new you can make a fire or light a candle to ask for God’s help, blessing and guidance. The primary school also has got something new this year: today the principal’s office was inaugurated. At the Ashram there is always something going on and changing and I am looking forward to see all the change when I am back in India.

What a great photo of the fire and a great way to bring in the New Year, thinking of god instead of champagne! Haha, but champagne is also nice.

Words of Wisdom

  • Belief

As a person who does not believe in superstition, one sometimes has a difficult time convincing others that their belief is nonsense. You can try and put up the most scientific arguments but a really superstitious person will still not believe you. Nevertheless I believe that superstitions, just like religious belief in general, is in decline.

  • God

Many people only say their prayers with rituals, when they are in temple or church or only pray if they have a mala. Praying with a mala is not wrong but it is not the only way. You don’t need a mala for praying. And you don’t need a church for getting in touch with God.

    Source
  • Celibacy

Religion tells you that you are allowed to laugh and cry, to feel hungry and thirsty but not to feel horny. Is this not a natural feeling? How can you live normally and naturally while being disrespectful to one of the most natural feelings in this world? Celibacy is the most unnatural concept that you can think of.

  • Sharing

Sharing Happiness is more important than sharing Sadness.

    Source
  • Money

It is nothing new that this society is focused on money. It is nothing new that the masses don’t care about the individual. But what about you? Why are you playing along?

    Source
  • Relationship

In a relationship you have to dissolve your ego without any expectations to the other one. If you don’t want to dissolve your ego, why do you want a relationship?

    Source
  • Belief

Atheists identify themselves with the fact that they don’t believe in any god. They have the principle of not believing – but believing that there is no god is also a belief.

    Source
  • Meditation

Meditation has become a sign of being spiritual or religious. Don't do it regularly however simply because your religion tells you to. Such a ritual often becomes a habit and loses its benefit.

    Source
  • Superstition

Superstitious people lose a big part of their freedom! They cannot take any decision on their own but have kept their minds a prison of their superstition! They have sold their intelligence to this nonsense! They could be so much happier in their lives without superstition!

    Source
  • Feelings

Only if you make your heart soft and accessible, you will be able to feel another person’s sorrows and pain. Only then you can give love from your heart. You can help the needy!

    Source
  • Relationship

A relationship is something very individual and personal but you definitely need one thing: lots of love.

    Source
  • Children

With children it is easy to have an emotional connection because they understand the language of emotions better than the language of intellect. If you talk to them with intelligent words, definitions and facts, they won’t understand you. If you reach out to them with love and happiness, you establish an emotional bridge in between you and them.

    Source
  • Closeness

The base for strengthening an emotional connection is physical closeness. For any close emotional relation you need to be close physically.

    Source
  • Rituals

Does a soul get more comfort by expensive rituals after death?

    Source
  • Relationship

Sometimes need to let someone go who does not want to be around you anymore and with whom you cannot share your way anymore. It can happen that these relations get stronger again after some time. Try not to poison a relation. If it doesn’t work, quit quietly. If you can, don’t create bitterness in between you.

    Source
  • Cheating

You did not tell your partner that you are cheating but you are trying to tell yourself that he or she would be fine with that. Anytime you do that, whenever you cheat your partner, you actually first cheat yourself with this lie.

    Source
  • Love

You cannot love God purely, there will either be fear or greed. Parents install these feelings related to God. God sees if you are a bad child! Don’t lie or fight with others, God knows everything! If you want to achieve something, be good and do what God says! Parents use God for their education – either threatening with him or promising that he would reward you.

  • Honesty

Be honest, even if you know the other one won't be happy about your answer!

    Source
  • Ego

It is the ego of believing that you are perfect which kills all your happiness in what you do.

  • Religion

Every Non-Believer is too stupid to understand Religion! – Really?
