Eat consciously and not on the run - 8 Jan 08

Swami Ji and Yashendu

I am writing before having dinner today. The smell of spices is already coming up to my room. I am getting hungry. Your body is the temple of your soul. You have to take care of what you give him to eat. Many times I get the impression that many people just eat too quickly in order to fill their stomach. Buying something on the way to work and eating it while walking. Eating the whole day bit by bit sweets and crackers, without really noticing that you are eating. There is nothing wrong with being a sweet tooth. People are always surprised when they see how much I love chocolate. If you feel like you really want to have something, eat it. Just be aware of it! Listen to what your body is telling you. Take some care to eat in a healthy way. Eat consciously, know that you are chewing and swallowing. Like this you appreciate your food and give it a completely different energy which will remain in your body. Food is also energy! Be aware of this and enjoy your meal.

Yes, it is very important to be mindful while eating. And to notice what emotions you have when you are consuming food. Some people eat when they are bored, others eat when they are depressed, and some eat when they are lonely. The energy and thoughts that you produce go into the food you consume. So if you send sadness into your food while cooking or consuming, you eat more sadness. It is also said that people digest food better in the company of loved ones. I hope that family meals enjoyed over conversation and love will be more common in the future!

Easier said than done. My family never sat down to dinner together, we were always running around and then get food by yourself whenever you have time. You know, I think I would like to take a cooking class. Maybe slow down a little.

It is so hard to eat consciously! I am always moving around, I feel really bad abut myself when I am not doing two or three things at once, I always eat while doing something.

Thanks Swami Ji, It is wonderful, if you are listening to your body it will ask you for just what it wants!

Words of Wisdom

  • Game

Don't play for winning but for having fun. The aim is not being better and if you lose, there is no reason to be sad. This is the game. Somebody will lose, somebody will win. A game is there for enjoying. Winning and losing is part of the fun.

  • Rules

I don’t like rules but I like discipline. It makes your will power strong.

    Source
  • Sects

The newage movement is like a religion reformed. People turned away from religion, choose one direction, be that card-reading, angels or past lives and then stick to it. It is nothing else than a religion in which you have a certain philosophy and won’t move away from it in your thinking.

  • Prediction

There is no plan and nobody knows what will happen tomorrow. We can take our decisions and have to take our responsibility for the consequences. Nobody knows before what will happen if you go one way or the other.

  • Love

The great Indian culture says that falling in love is a crime. You teach your daughters not to talk to male college classmates but expect them to sleep with a complete stranger after their wedding.

  • Experience

Don't try to convince others - they have to make their own experience.

    Source
  • Religion

Religion has always worked like a dictatorship, exploiting people, using fear to make them accept the rules without asking. The dictator makes the rules and you have no way to change them.

  • Forgiveness

Forgive and leave your anger behind. Remember that this is not an act of grace towards the other person but something that you are doing for yourself, too! Be in love, that makes it easier!

In a close friendship, there are two separate individuals who give each other love but can still have different belief and ideas of life.

  • Scriptures

Religious scriptures are only pieces of literature that have been noted down by people in the past and should not have any relevance or importance today. Read them word by word and you will get to know their crazy and cruel content.

  • God

God doesn’t want to own a house or a temple, he is just there, living in our heart. It is the greed of people who want to own land – and if they can possess it on the name of God, they do.

  • Meditation

Things turn out best if you do only one thing at a time. Only if you always put your full concentration on one action you can do everything with love. That is meditation.

  • Ego

There are people who are very impressed when you make your talk complicated and others who like that. They like it complicated because it satisfies their ego to understand it.

  • Negativity

Our negativity lives on our back. It is difficult for us to see but we need to explore it. We can easily see the back of another person. Work on seeing and reducing your own negativity.
