I told Michael about what I wrote in my diary yesterday and I said how wonderful it is to keep a constant state of consciousness in which you enjoy and celebrate everything. In this state of joyful consciousness there is no fluctuation, no going up and down. It doesn't matter what you are doing you enjoy everything. Your material state doesn't make a difference then. If you have money or not, it doesn't make a difference in the joy. There are many people who have plenty of money and are not happy. This happiness does not depend on material things.
Let me make this more clear. There are so many unfortunate situations of loss, pain and sadness. I say that you have to accept the sadness. You have to accept it, live it. I know how extremely sad one can be. But you have to come out of it, too. Live it but do not die alive. Do not live a dead life. You have to become the seer, the observer so that you can realize that on the one hand you are in pain and sadness but on the other hand you are not the body. The body is in pain, not you. You have to let go of the ego of being the body. When you become the observer you are not involved in it. You can be untouched of your material state and live in this consciousness, if you are in pain or not and if you have money or not. When you realize the truth that you are not the body, then it is easier to accept and to let go.
Of course it is important to be sensitive, to see and feel the pain of others and do whatever you can do to help. This is what I am doing with my work in India. I feel the pain of these families, the parents working physically so hard all day, the mother not knowing if she can feed her children. And we are providing them with food, with shelter if we can, do whatever is possible to help. But it is easier to do this work while being in this state of consciousness, when you can help with joy, give them happiness and love! It is necessary to have this else you will suffer while helping and you could not help for a long time. Like today my friend Iris sponsored the food for the children as it is her birthday. Actually it is Holi time and the children have holidays but for most of them it is the only meal they get in a day so they came for eating. And knowing this it is wonderful to feed them and to see how they are enjoying!
his time is anyway wonderful for children. The whole day hundreds of people were doing the pilgrim way around Vrindavan and throwing colours on each other on the way. In the evening we also went to the main temple to join the colour madness there. It is really a crazy festival which is really wonderful especially for children. And again you can see, even those who do not have anything are having the celebration, are in this state of consciousness and festive mood. And the energy in the whole city is helping you to come into this mood, too.

Let's say hypothetically that there are two people who have about the same equilibrium of emotions. That is to say, they are both balanced in the positive and negative emotions they feel. One of them stays right in the middle and rarely feels much joy or sadness. The other one feels extreme joy and extreme sadness about the same amount of time, and it balances out in the middle. Which one is better? Is there a better one? Maybe each person is born with their own swings of emotion and they can't control how far from equilibrium they go. But if they are still in balance overall, is it just as desirable?

"Live it but do not die alive. Do not live a dead life." This is a very powerful entry for me to read. Thank you for writing it. You know, you never know just who you will effect by your words- sometimes even long after you've said them.

SourcePeople in India have something to give to the traveller. They can show you how to make the best of what you have. To be satisfied. To be happy. Not to compare yourself with everyone else and feel bad about it. To realize how rich you really are, not only materially but emotionally, in your heart. You learn to value the small things again and you find back to an inner happiness that cannot be shaken easily anymore.

SourceMany people only say their prayers with rituals, when they are in temple or church or only pray if they have a mala. Praying with a mala is not wrong but it is not the only way. You don’t need a mala for praying. And you don’t need a church for getting in touch with God.
