Exercise and Workout in a Group? - 28 Jan 10

Food for a day

My strongest belief is that you should be honest with whatever you are doing. Being honest also means honest to yourself. If you have made the decision to daily do your workout or your daily session of learning, don’t cheat yourself by skipping again and again. This would mean not being honest to yourself and I assure you that this would have the opposite effect on your self-esteem.

For some people it is easier to do this kind of regular thing in a group. You can tell your friends about it and just let them know that you are doing this now and that you will not back out again. If they share your interest in this way, they might join you in your daily routine and it will make it easier for you to do it daily plus it will be more fun in a group.

So what do you think? I can imagine that some of you sit there now, thinking about it and quickly deciding not to tell any friend any word like ‘daily workout’, ‘I am doing sports now’ or anything similar. And the reason for this is simple: if you did the same thing together you would start comparing yourself to your friends and you are afraid that you will not look good in this comparison.

Wait a second, isn’t that again your low self-esteem talking? Why do you compare? Yesterday I wrote about the goals and said that you should do it just to enjoy, not to look like any celebrity or sportsperson. If you just enjoy doing your exercises, you don’t need to compare because there is no goal which another person could be closer to. You are just doing it to feel good. Keep your attention with yourself. You feel yourself, you are moving your muscles, you are working with your body. Great, that’s it!

Some people prefer doing sports and exercices on their own. But if you are sometimes a little lazy and don't feel like doing anything it's nice to a group that can motivate you :) Also it might be helpful to keep regular hours.

It can be very helpful to have a support group in whatever you are doing to keep you on track. The presence of others can help you stay consistent and push yourself more than you would alone. But be careful of pushing yourself too hard because of the competition and comparison with others. Just enjoy their presence and support without trying to compete with them.

If you experience fear, it doesn’t make me afraid. If you eat something, it does not fill my stomach. In the same way, I don’t believe in God just because you do!

  • Superstition

It is a collective decision to believe something that everybody has always accepted. It is tradition, it is normal, it is what everybody thinks. Always keep on questioning these things - they are the most likely to be wrong!
