I like to work. In India many people nowadays become preachers or Swamis in a very fast way. They don’t really want to learn or study anything, they want to make money. This is how they look for a shortcut and they find it by just learning some hours of talk by heart which they have heard on a cassette a dozen of times. When they know this text by heart they just go and give this speech. They get their money although nobody of them can answer any question about what they just said.
Somehow I see this also in the west where people, who want to make a living in a quick and easy way, become healer, psychic and clairvoyant. Everybody has to do something in his life to survive, to earn money and to live, I understand that. I don’t understand however why people cheat themselves.
If all the people who do predictions and say that they have extraordinary powers are that much blessed with these powers, then why can’t they help our society in a more creative way? I could have been really very happy if someone could have predicted what happened in Haiti. Then we could have saved so many people and would have saved so many more from much grief and sadness. No, I don’t think it is possible and unfortunately there are still so many people who are cheating others and also themselves in this way.

The way of life in many Western counntries is following this one and only principle: quick and easy. Be it work, food or relationship, people, nobody can wait, everyone is in a hurry and unable to calm down, it's all superficial. Maybe they should stop for a moment and think about this famous phrase: anything in life worth having is worth working for it ;)

People may find temporary fulfillment from making money however they can get it. But I don't think this fulfillment lasts long. They will begin to question their purpose in life and who they really are. When we work hard at something we love to do, we feel like we have an important purpose in life. Doing the work we love gives us more fulfillment than all the money in the world could.

My boyfriend Theo stopped going to school one thesis short of his masters degree. He had no insecurities about this. He walked away and set out to become a park ranger where he would spend days outside, hiking in the woods in solitude. One weekend we were visiting his parents in the town he grew up in. I heard Theo's father shouting at him. "You make money to support your family. Just pick something and do it. You are wasting all of this opportunity!" Theo and I talked about this afterwords. It was clear that his father was very unhappy with Theo and it is clear that Theo's father is very unhappy with his own work. We were very puzzled as to why Theo's father would want Theo to follow in his footsteps if he was so unhappy, so once things had calmed down we asked. Rhett told us it was so that Theo could have a good life. He would not talk anymore about this. Of course, Rhett's life is not so good. Theo was taking action to assure that he would love his work, so he would not be sad as his father is.
