Switch off the Mind and Feel your Feelings - 15 Jan 2010

Swami Ji

In my work I meet a lot of people. At the majority of them I can notice one thing: they are too much in the mind. People are thinking too much. The mind is always active, always working hard. There is hardly a minute when it calms down. Even when they are doing nothing the mind is active. The problem with this is that they do not listen to their feelings because they are always occupied with what their mind is telling them. It is not even possible to recognize a feeling, a motion of the heart unless it is very intensive. People are not sensitive for their own feelings anymore. I always say: You have to come down, from head to heart, from thinking to feeling. Switch off the mind sometimes and listen to what your heart says. Then you will discover your true feelings. This is a process which develops and comes slowly. There is no button to switch off the mind. But the first step is to see and feel your own feelings. This topic is very interesting and maybe I will write a bit more tomorrow but for today I am too tired. It is late already; we were eating ice-cream and were playing billiard on a mini-pool-table. I will go to bed now.

It's really important that we learn how to silence the mind. Many people live most of their lives without realizing that they are NOT their minds!! They believe that the mind is the Self and so whatever it thinks is what they must be. So untrue! When you recognize that the mind is one aspect of consciousness and that it's not always right, you can find much more peace. By calming the mind, we can listen to the heart and soul. We can feel, love, and just be.

Was talking to someone the other day about our inner personal stories and how reciting our stories to ourselves overlaid on top of emotions is what make emotions hard to deal with. If we could just get rid of our stories, minds, and feel... we could be so free!

Can you separate the two? People distinguish between thought and emotion all the time, but I think you can't have one without the other.

Easier said than done to let your emotions flow. Some people have never even been shown how. But I agree that it is crucially important.

Words of Wisdom

  • Change

Change is normal and just a sign that you are alive and in the flow of life. We always change for the better when we make a conscious change and decide to change along with times. We are changing in every second and it is better to accept this change than to fight it.

    Source
  • Relationship

Don’t fight after breaking up! The other one is someone whom you once loved!

    Source
  • Religion

God lives in the heart and can come wherever you want. Temples and religious buildings are the centers of the business of religion where they see religious people as cows and milk them for money and donations, even by selling tickets. The more money you have, the quicker you can see God and the more blessings you get.

    Source
  • Sharing

In western culture sharing is not important. People divide and own. This is mine and that is yours. This is my car; that is your house. It is the ego of owning something. There is too much individuality. Share with others!

    Source
  • Spiritual

Religion and spirituality don’t need a Guru. It is the way that you go and what you accept in life, it is nothing to learn, it is just implementing your honesty into life. It is love and you don’t need to learn love. If you are in love and you are honest, you are already spiritual.

    Source
  • Expectations

Don’t play a role but simply be yourself. Take off any mask that you might have been wearing because of someone’s expectation.

    Source
  • Truth

The truth is nowhere outside. Search in your love and in your honesty, there you will find truth.

    Source
  • Yoga

Hatha Yoga is food for the body, Gyan Yoga is food for the mind and Bhakti Yoga is food for the soul. Like this you get the full package.

    Source
  • Spiritual

One of the most dangerous aspects of modern spirituality is that everybody can just invent anything and sell it as the truth, even if it is impossible and unrealistic.

    Source
  • Guilt

We all are human, not god, so we do mistakes. Accept your mistake and leave your ego, then you won't feel guilty. Guilt is created when you do not accept your mistake because of your ego. Don't make yourself feel guilty for making mistakes.

  • God

Is God trustworthy? Should you really have faith in someone you never met?

    Source
  • Loneliness

People, afraid of loneliness, want to train themselves for it and make this affirmation: "I can be alone". "I need my space" is another phrase which is often said by those who would actually like to have someone around them.

    Source
  • Gurus

Be your own master. We have enough to do with mastering ourselves and don’t need anybody else whom we can master.

    Source
  • Decision

It is always your decision how you want to spend your day and your evening. If you want to be angry or if you want to have fun, the decision is yours!

    Source
  • Beauty

Love your body also in the process of getting older. Just as a child has its beauty, age also has its own beauty!

    Source
  • Religion

Religious belief and superstition can hurt the feelings of your friends.

    Source
  • Belief

It is not necessary to believe in the truth for it to be real. Fire for example will burn, if you believe it or not.

    Source
  • Religion

Liberation or heaven? Hindu religion confuses people with its karma-philosophy!

    Source
  • Meditation

You don't have to sit down with crossed legs, close your eyes and breathe deeply in order to meditate. Meditation means to be completely present, to be fully aware of what you are doing in that very moment without your thoughts racing around in past or future.

  • Beauty

Comparing with other does not increase or reduce your beauty!
