Travelling with Children in India - Flexibility and Relaxation - 9 Dev 2010

Swami Ji

Here in Cologne we are staying with Anne, one of our students of the yoga teacher training. She was in India at the Ashram and said that this has a big impact on her life and it was a great experience which is difficult to express in words. She is looking forward to bring her eight year old son for a healing session tomorrow. He is much exited to meet me. So I said her that is nice and next time you come to India together with your son.

She wondered a bit if it would not be too much for her child to go to India and maybe he would get a cultural shock? I replied that there were many children at the Ashram already who were also around this age and they were all fine and very happy. Children are very innocent and open. They are still flexible and curious. Their mind is not hard in its shape like an adult’s, it is soft and can be formed by what they see.

Many adults who come to India have so many impressions and ideas in their mind and they come to India and get a shock. Adults have an idea how things should be. Children are more open in their mind, they do not have this prefixed idea of right and wrong or good and bad. If they enjoy, then they are just ready to have fun. I know that many people have fear to bring their children but I don’t think so that there could be a problem or any wrong impression for the mind of children who are growing up.

One of my friends of England will come to India and visit the Ashram with her three teenage daughters next year. She has been there before when her youngest daughter was ten years old. I gave this example to our host and said her not to worry. For a eight year old boy it will be great to see the world of children of the same age in another country.

Children are really great. they don't need language to communicate with each other- just to play.

When my wife and I visited India with our three year old we couldn't believe how fast he picked up Hindi! We lived in Ajmer for a year and he came home speaking a language that Barb and I can't understand. Haha. It gave us the idea to introduce him to a few other languages. Now we speak to him in French and English.

It is true that children adapt to things more easily. It is a blessing for them. Part of my goal for being childlike is to retain this kind of openess in new situations... and old ones!

Words of Wisdom

  • Family

In India you can learn about love in between family members, about supporting each other and living together in peace and freedom.

    Source
  • Religion

A male-dominated religion and culture in India has not only raised girls in a way that makes them weak but also blames them for the crimes committed by men.

  • Religion

Religion uses subtle manipulation to make you crazy.

    Source
  • Religion

Dharma is not religion. Dharma is the tasks that I want to do from my heart, not something that I have to do because I was born to Hindu parents.

  • Gurus

Gurus with business interests made it possible to convert to Hinduism!

  • Negativity

Negative people are not bothered by negativity because they are already full of negativity. Negativity more strongly affects positive people, trying to make them negative, too.

  • Spiritual

Spirituality is not a hobby like playing the piano for which you sometimes have time and sometimes not. Spirituality doesn’t cost time. It should be natural. Why do you think you are only spiritual if you practice at least one hour of meditation per day and lots of Yoga exercises? You can be spiritual in eating, cooking and sleeping, too.

  • Religion

Don’t you degrade your own religion if you need to use tricks to convert people? If your religion is really the best, wouldn’t people decide for it out of their free will and not because they are obliged to?

  • Religion

We need to stop religion from spreading the superstition that there could be a ghost or spirit possessing a person.

  • Religion

Religion often has the effect of poison: it kills people, it separates them, it creates hate among them. Human is made by god and religion is made by man. God did not create people with different religions, he made us all the same.

  • Happiness

Everyone who really loves you wants you to be happy and strong and stable in your happiness. It is difficult to have stable happiness if you cannot have a stable opinion because all the time you actually worry in which direction you have to change your opinion now!
