Boys at the Ashram

Diwali is now getting closer and the preparations are in full swing. In India Diwali or Deepawali is the biggest celebration of the year and I like to compare it to Christmas. In half of the country it is also the night in which the New Year starts. In the last days a lot of cleaning was going on in the Ashram. Old things were thrown away and everything that stayed is now clean and nice for the festive time. Diwali is the festival of light and everybody lights a lot of candles in the house and around the house. Everywhere you see lights and we also started decorating the Ashram today. My mother and grandmother started making sweets because on Diwali there have to be lots of sweets and a big variety.

In March I told you about Shivaratri and told that it is one of the four important nights in the Indian belief. The night of Diwali is another one of the four. It is called Kal Ratri and it is always on new moon. This year it will be on the 28th October. In every house there will be pooja ceremonies and people will worship and pray to Ganesha and Lakshmi. Lakshmi is the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. Ganesha stands for wisdom and is also the god who removes all obstacles from your path. With the strong energy of the new moon night these prayers shall be more effective. We will of course have a ceremony, too. It is a special night and everybody is looking forward to it. Of course children are more excited than everyone else and that is how it seems in these days that the Ashram is even more full of life and joy and cheerfulness. It is a wonderful atmosphere that started spreading now.

How lovely and exciting! I always love hearing how you at the ashram will be celebrating all the festivals as well as a bit of background about where the festival came from. I hope you all enjoyed and had a lovely evening.

Swami Ji, Celebrations at the Ashram are always filled with a strong sense of giving, love and joy. I hope that I get the chance to take off work during Diwali one year and celebrate with the ashram family.

Words of Wisdom

  • Gurus

Don’t be afraid, there are no such things as Siddhis! Speak out without fear and don’t let gurus cheat more people by claiming to have supernatural powers!

    Source
  • Love

Love should always be unconditional. If there is any condition, it is not really love. If someone leaves because of a condition you don't fulfil, you do not have to feel guilty or have an inferiority complex. Those who really love you, love you how you are, not because of something or a certain quality.

    Source
  • Freedom

If you want to follow a Guru, a master, a sect leader or any kind of belief, don’t have your children affected, too! Give your children the possibility to decide themselves. Show them the normal world, let them develop properly with the full capacity of their mind to be critical, to think about everything themselves and with full emotional abilities, too! Give your child the freedom and the possibility of a healthy, normal lifestyle.

  • Psychology

    Don't take everything personal!

  • Knowledge

The school is the place where you learn how to learn.

  • Self-Confidence

What is wrong is wrong and if you have seen wrong, you have to speak out against it, keep your loved ones from doing it and make clear that you oppose it.

    Source
  • Sex

The average Indian person will tell you that it is wrong to have sex before marriage. They think sex is something dirty, even if they are married. Before being married however it is thought to be a sin!

    Source
  • Rules

If people forget the sense of rules, they are just rules without a background which leads to a blind following of rules instead of the understanding of life. See why rules are there and understand their meaning.

  • Religion

Isn’t it cruel to show a person that you won’t even touch his arm just because he was born into an untouchable family?

    Source
  • Decision

You have to make the decision to love everybody. You have to have the decision to have love in yourself. This is the decision. And then love for the universe will flow naturally.

  • Religion

The importance of religion is getting less and less.

  • Feelings

A greeting card is only a symbol to express what you have inside your heart. It doesn’t matter how big or expensive the card is, you cannot send anything that you do not have. And if you have best wishes in your heart, they will arrive even if you do not send them by post.

  • Relationship

Don’t bring business talk everywhere. Stop it, at the latest when you go into the bedroom. No business is allowed there anymore, just love and the relationship of you and your partner.

  • Change

Don't like your job? - Change it or start liking it!

  • Happiness

Being happy is the biggest worship of god. I don’t think that God would be more happy about any other ritual or method of worshipping.

    Source
  • God

Many people only say their prayers with rituals, when they are in temple or church or only pray if they have a mala. Praying with a mala is not wrong but it is not the only way. You don’t need a mala for praying. And you don’t need a church for getting in touch with God.

  • Prediction

There is no plan and nobody knows what will happen tomorrow. We can take our decisions and have to take our responsibility for the consequences. Nobody knows before what will happen if you go one way or the other.

  • Love

Your body is not the reason for a man's cheating. If he loved you before, why should this change only because your looks changed?

    Source
  • Love

Love is when you want to enjoy and laugh together, when you want to smile and celebrate together but also cry together and give each other support in difficult times.

  • Feelings

Sensitivity is a jewel of humanity. If there was no sensitivity, everybody would be just like stone!
