Devotion in Relationships - 17 Jan 10

Winter in India

Yesterday I said already that physical closeness is very important but not the only factor for a successful relationship. And even without physical closeness some people manage to have a beautiful relationship. In former times people were living in villages and when a couple got married, the husband sometimes went to a bigger city for work but couldn’t take his wife along. Despite this physical distance they also had a great connection and love.

Nowadays this can also work, if two people are connected with the heart, with their love and devoted to each other. Then even the distance doesn’t make a difference in their love and trust. Even though they are physically not close their devotion keeps them connected to each other. But what happens many times is that even if they are living together, devotion to each other is missing. And this is how a relationship fails.

They are devoted to other things, not to their love or to the other person. Then they are far away from each other’s heart even though they are living in the same room and sleeping in the same bed. If people have been together for 15 years and after this long time they break up and don’t really feel that they lost something, they were obviously devoted to something else, not their partner. A relationship is something very individual and personal but one thing I can tell you which you definitely need: lots of love.

My understanding of love and devotion: When you love someone purely or unconditionally and they love you as well in this manner, devotion follows naturally. This person is your light, your window to god. You do not fight, you cherish the beautiful words that come from their lips, their actions, their everything. If for some reason, this profound love dims, it can always be found again (if you are "devoted" in a different sense) because what you saw in them is always in them and has only been covered and hidden away by your own perceptions. If this love has faded through some odd circumstance it is as worthwhile to learn to let it go as it is to experience it fully again. And while those two actions may somehow seem separate...they are no different from one another.

Words of Wisdom

  • Vegetarian

There are two kinds of animals: carnivores, like lions and tigers which eat meat and herbivores, like cows and horses which eat plants. Our whole body structure, our metabolism and our jaw are more similar to that of cows than of tigers. Our teeth are perfect for grinding grains and vegetables and not for tearing apart animal flesh.

  • Happiness

When you are happy you can make others happy! Like this you can spread happiness. Give something to others when you are satisfied yourself. That will increase your happiness even more.

  • Gurus

Guru is not a title, it is a relation like brother or father. Swami is a title for a spiritual person. This is the difference.

  • Enlightenment

Women are taught that their guru is God. You do what God says and whatever God says is right and has a deeper meaning. If God asks you to touch his genitals or if he kisses you, there will be a reason. Some gurus even told their favourite female disciples that they were the chosen ones who will receive enlightenment the fastest.

A miraculous healing is usually not any miracle but just the natural strength of the body. The full credit goes to the healer who pretends that it was him who could heal.

Gurus sitting on golden thrones, silver pots around them, wearing golden necklaces and jewelry with kilos of gems and precious stones just show that it is simple religious business, nothing else.

  • Gurus

All Gurus like to say ‘Money is bad and you should not keep it. Give it to me.’ That is how they are rich. Is that their wisdom?

  • Trust

Give your child your love over your touch. You create a deep trust in this baby that you will be there whatever happens.

  • Body

You need to learn to be happy and satisfied. You should be healthy and feel happy and good with your body.

    Source
  • Ego

Sometimes ego and anger can bring a darkness to your heart with which you do not even care about the happiness of your children although you love them. This love is not pure but driven by ego.

  • Love

No, you cannot love God even approximately as much as your family! How could you? He is not like your mother or father who take you in their arms for security or comfort. It is your mother's smell, her noises, the feeling of her touch that becomes imprinted in your mind and most importantly in your heart. Not God’s smell, noise or touch. It is impossible that you ever have the great love for God that you have for your family!
